2023: IBB to broker truce between Atiku, PDP G-5 Govs.

There are strong indications that former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd), popularly known as IBB, has waded into the turmoil rocking the opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP (PDP).

According to information gathered, the former president of Nigeria would meet behind closed doors on Friday in Minna, the Niger State capital, with the PDP’s Atiku Abubakar and the party’s disgruntled Group of five (G-5) governors.

The gathering comes just three days after IBB hosted Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his crew at his hilltop home in Minna, the presidential candidate of the opposition All Progressives Congress, (APC).

According to some sources, a former senior military intelligence officer and some Northern interest groups that supported the Atiku presidency may have been the driving forces behind the latest effort at reconciliation that leveraged IBB’s outreach.

Recall that the governor of Rivers State and the leader of the G-5, Nyesom Wike, is credited with saying, during a press conference in Bauchi State a few days ago, that the group is still open to reconciliation.

However, there has been no official statement regarding this speculation from IBB himself.
