2023: “Why I won’t reveal my favourite candidate” -President Buhari

Blasts State govs. on relationship with LG Councils
…Rules out State Police

President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed that he would not reveal his favourite candidate for the 2023 presidency.

In an interview on a television programme yesterday, the President said that he would leave his favourite candidate secret because if he should mention any name, his choice might be eliminated before the time.

Buhari added that he is not interested in who would succeed him and that whoever wins would succeed him.

The president also accused state governors of having poor relationships with the local government councils, stating that the third tier of government are not getting their constitutional entitlements from the governors.

In an interview on a television programme yesterday, the president also said that the establishment of State Police is not an option for the country, noting that the governors would abuse their power.

The President alluded to the propensity for Governors to abuse their powers as his argument against State Police.

“State Police is not an option,” he said. “Find out the relationship between local government and the Governors. Are the third tier of government getting what they are supposed to get constitutionally? Are they getting it? Let the people in local government tell you the truth, the fight between local governments and the Governor”.

Commenting on the security situation in the country, the President advocated for more dialogue towards solving the farmer-herder clashes causing havoc in many parts of the nation, adding that traditional rulers must play a huge role in bringing peace to communities.

He also said that he is determined to ensure all killings are stopped in the country.
