Army Chief tasks officers to sustain operational tempo against insecurity

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, has charged officers and soldiers to sustain the tempo of operations against insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other security challenges facing the country.

Attahiru made the call at the closing of the combined First Quarter Conference and Nigerian Army Operations Retreat 2021 in Abuja.

He said that officers and soldiers must maintain a posture that would create the enabling environment for peace and socio-economic activities to thrive.

According to him, the conference and operation retreat serves as an opportunity to appraise operations and activities in order to achieve the overall objective of repositioning the Nigerian Army to face the tasks ahead.

He said that top officers were able to substantially review their training, operations and administrative activities including crucial security issues.

The COAS disclosed that army operations against Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), banditry and militancy among other violent crimes were reviewed during the conference and the retreat.

According to him, it is evident from the briefings and discussions that the Nigerian Army is making progress in the efforts to address the myriad of security challenges confronting our dear nation.

“Despite the effort, I want to charge field commanders not to rest on their oars.

“I implore you all to sustain the tempo of operations and maintain the posture that will create the enabling environment for peace and socio economic activities to thrive in our dear country,” he said.

Attahiru further disclosed that the conference equally afforded him the opportunity to communicate his vision and strategic plan for year 2021 to Principal Staff Officers, Corp Commanders as well as Field Commanders.

He tasked commanders and staff officers to strategise on how to craft operations and training activities to build appropriate capabilities towards attaining sustainable peace and stability across the country.

He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his continued support to the army and reassured loyalty and commitment of officer and soldiers to the defence of democratic governance in Nigeria.
