Army troops repel Boko Haram attack in Borno, kill 10 terrorists

…Arrest 2 suspected fuel suppliers in Yobe

The Nigerian Army says its troops of ‘Operation Hadin Kai’ have eliminated ten Boko Haram terrorists during an attempted attack on troops located in Rann, headquarters of Kala Balge local government area of Borno State.

The Director, Army Public Relation, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Yerima, in a statement issued yesterday, said the feat was achieved barely hours into the tenure of the new Chief of Army Staff, Maj.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya.

Yerima said that the terrorists came in their numbers mounted on gun trucks and attempted to infiltrate the main entrance to the town on Friday, adding that the troops were right on hand to counter the move and inflicted a humiliating defeat on the terrorists who abandoned their evil mission and took to their heels.

According to him, troops chased the retreating terrorist and ensured there was no further threat to the town and the residents.

“Combatants successfully destroyed one of the gun trucks and recovered multiple weapons including one anti-aircraft gun, two machine guns and eight AK-47 rifles, neutralising 10 terrorists in the process”, he said.

Furthermore, the Army said its troops successfully raided another suspected Boko Haram logistics base and arrested two fuel suppliers in the Gujba area of Yobe State.

Yerima added that the gallant troops also recovered several items including 11 containers loaded with petrol, six kegs of diesel, and nine empty kegs hidden in different locations in the area.

He said the suspects are currently in the custody of the troops for preliminary investigation, adding that they would be handed over to the relevant agencies for prosecution.
