An officer of the Nigeria Customs Service and at least 9 other persons have been killed as suspected bandits launched fresh attacks on Tsauwa village in Batsari and Dan Arau villages of Jibiya Area Councils of Katsina State.
The late Customs officer was killed by the bandits at one of the checkpoints at Dan Arau village along Katsina/Jibiya highway who made away with his AK 47 rifle.
Confirming the 2 incidents, the Police Spokesman, Gambo Isah said, the attack that led to the death of the Customs Officer happened on Friday afternoon describing it as a surprise attack.
According to another source, the bandits attempted to go with the corpse of the Customs Officer before they were intercepted by security operatives who engaged them in a shootout, retrieving the body and forcing the bandits to escape into the forest.
In Tsauwa village, another 9 persons were killed by suspected bandits.
A source said the bandits attacked the village on Friday night; adding that while the bandits tried to make away with a motorcycle and other items, they were chased by vigilantes and some villagers.
He said unknown to the villagers, the bandits had laid ambush for them, killing at least 9 of them in the process before escaping into the forest.
