…Youths beg Umahi to contest 2023 presidency
One person was reportedly killed while three others were in a critical condition as a result of injuries they sustained in a bloody clash at Babura, the State governor Badaru’s home-town, during a visit by the Ebonyi State governor, Chief David Nweze Umahi to Jigawa State.
According to reports, two All Progressives Congress (APC) rival groups in the State clashed whereby dangerous weapons were freely used during the official commissioning of Babura township roads completed by the Jigawa State governor, Muhammed Badaru Abubakar by his Ebonyi state counterpart, David Umahi.
Although, the death of one of the victims of the clash could not be confirmed as at the time of filing this report, an investigation at the Babura General Hospital reveaed a barricade mounted by the military authorities, with police vehicles blocking the entrance and preventing people from having access to the hospital.
Earlier, at the road commissioning ceremony, a group of some heavily armed thugs were seen in an open confrontation with another rival group brandishing dangerous weapons such as knives, cutlases and other special weapons.
According to an eye-witnesses, the quarrel between the two factions from Babura and Gumel local government areas have persisted for a long time in the history of the towns. However, things reportedly took a new dimension when the Babura-based thugs perceived that another leader of a group from the rival Gumel faction is being more ‘favoured’ by those in government.
When contacted, the State’s Police Command’s Public Relations Officer,
(PPRO), ASP Aminudeen Zubair, confirmed the incident, but said they have not received any report of any death .
Meanwhile , some youths in the State under the banner of ‘Jigawa Northern Youths’, have pleaded with Governor Umahi to contest for the 2023 Presidency.
The youths made their appeal clear during the Governor’s working visit to the State when he was being welcomed by a mammoth crowd.
The youths were seen holding placards with different inscriptions such as: ‘Umahi Is The Man We Know In 2023′; ‘Umahi; We Love Your Good Work in Ebonyi State‘, etc.
However, Umahi has maintained that it is not yet time to reveal whether he will contest in 2023 or not as he focused on delivering good governance in Ebonyi State.
