The Borno State capital, Maiduguri, as well as its environs, have been plunged into darkness again barely 48 hours after the restoration of power that triggered wild jubilation on the streets.
The insurgents reportedly cut-off another section of the 330 kilovolts Damaturu- Maiduguri transmission line yesterday.
Recall that the town has been in total blackout for more than two months due to Boko Haram destruction of power lines until two days ago when Transmission Company of Nigeria, (TCN), restored bulk power to the city.
TCN officials have confirmed the incident. According to him, the insurgents have bombed towers 152 and 153 on Damaturu – Maiduguri 330JKV line yesterday, thereby rendering Maiduguri and its environs to blackout out again.
On January 26, Boko Haram had attacked the 330kV Damaturu – Maiduguri transmission line around the Jakana area of the town, destroying three towers and severing the capital city from the national power grid.
