Ebonyi: APGA Guber candidate attacked by suspected Ebubeagu operatives

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship candidate, Prof. Bernard Odoh and his campaign team were attacked yesterday by suspected operatives of the ‘Ebubeagu‘ security outfit.

Odoh and his team were allegedly attacked in the Izzi local government area of the State, where they were to meet with party faithful, officials and supporters yesterday to officially open the APGA office in the area.

Addressing newsmen in Abakaliki, the State capital, Odoh said the incident was a declaration of ‘war’ on democracy and the people of the State. He said there had been threats and orders that no other political party should come to Izzi to campaign except the APC but he defiled the threats, saying, “If I can’t go to Izzi, it means I’m not qualified to run for the election”.

When contacted, the Ebonyi Police Command linked the development to political rivalry. The Commissioner for Police, in the state, CP Garba Aliyu, stated this in a telephone interview, yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Izzi local government area, Barrister Steve Nwankpa, said there was no attack on the APGA governorship in Izzi LGA, rather, the security operatives attached to his convoy attacked members of APC in the area.

Nwankpa alleged that a Development Centre Coordinator he identified as Sebastian Obia was shot by security operatives attached to Prof. Odo, and currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

He denied that Ebubeagu Security operatives attacked Prof Odoh and his campaign team in the area, saying Ebubeagu cannot go on operation without his knowledge.
