The Minister of Defence, Maj-Gen. Bashir Magashi (rtd), has urged Muslim faithfuls to intensify prayer for peace in Nigeria in a solemn and low-key celebration of Eid-il–Fitr.
Magashi stated this in a statement felicitating with Muslim Ummah on the successful completion of fasting in the holy month of Ramadan and the concomitant celebration of Eid-il-Fitr.
He urged Muslim faithfuls to extend the commitment by prayers exhibited during the month of Ramadan for continuous spiritual communion and besieging of Almighty Allah to intervene in the internal security challenges bedeviling the country.
The Minister, who harped on the efficacy of prayers in turning the tide of war against the perpetrators of violent extremism, therefore eulogised the gallantry of the fighting troops currently firing from all cylinders and degrading the capabilities of the enemies of the State.
Magashi also called on all Nigerians to carry out their civic and patriotic duty at all times, by giving timely information to security operatives to bust criminal tendencies in their domains and “wished Muslims a hitch-free Eid-il-Fitr celebrations and the country a rewarding experience in meeting national aspirations to end banditry, kidnapping and insurgency in the nation”.
