The Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the State governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, to provide “stomach infrastructure” for its members and the state residents in general.
The Adamawa PDP Chairman, Tahir Shehu, made the demand during a stakeholders’ meeting with the governor in Yola, the State capital, on Friday.
Stomach infrastructure, popularised by a former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, is a term in Nigerian politics used to refer to the provision of food and other basic needs for the people in an undeserved manner.
Shehu explained to Governor Fintiri that while he has done well in providing infrastructural development for the state, it is also important that he makes “stomach infrastructure” available to complement his efforts.
According to the PDP Chairman, it is important for Fintiri to also prioritise human development as his government is nearing two years.
He said: “Now that the government is approaching its second year, we will plead with you, Your Excellency, to provide human development.
“Let me borrow the words of one of our party chieftains, who call it stomach infrastructure”.
“If you build even a skyscraper, and if you didn’t provide human development, you would have done a lot. But the people would still need more than just that”, he stated.
