…’Act now before we lose Nigeria, Tofa tells Buhari
Former Acting National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, has questioned the true identity of the bandits and insurgents rampaging the troubled geopolitical zones of the country.
According to Baraje, the criminals are foreign invaders who are working for frustrated politicians desperate for power. He also warned that the insecurity problem confronting Nigeria presently may boomerang.
The PDP chieftain explained that if Nigeria’s security problem is not tackled seriously, the country may cease to exist.
Answering questions from newsmen at a media parley on his 70th birthday, in Ilorin, yesterday, Baraje, declared that the bandits and insurgents “Are not our real Fulanis, but invaders from our neighbouring countries sponsored by frustrated Nigerian politicians who are desperate for political power at all cost.”
He cautioned desperate politicians behind the insecurity problem in the country not to throw Nigeria into a war-torn nation like Sudan and Rwanda amongst others.
Baraje defended the setting up of security outfits in some parts of the country, such as Amotekun and others, saying ” there is nothing wrong in people putting in place their own security outfits when their lives are threatened”.
Meanwhile, a former presidential candidate during the Third Republic, Bashir Othman Tofa, has called on President Buhari to stop the extra-judicial killing of Fulani in the South-West region to save Nigeria from disintegration. He spoke on Tuesday, hours after a fresh attack on a Fulani community in Ogun State that led to the killing of a herdsman and the burning of a settlement and a market.
Tofa, who was the presidential candidate of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC), said it would be a futile attempt to stop lawlessness when youths from the North take arms against people from other regions. The elder statesman also took a swipe at some South West leaders, who he said looked the other way while some purported “freedom fighters” kept beating the drum of war, issuing eviction orders, attacking and maiming the Fulani.
In a message, tagged: ‘Statement of Serious Concern’, Tofa described attacks on Fulani in South-West as “unacceptable”. On continued eviction orders against Fulani by the self-acclaimed Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho, and the apparent silence of some governors, Tofa said, “Those foolish leaders and their stupid hirelings who encourage the expulsion of other Nigerians from their states should remember that their people also live in other parts; they must stop, or the law should stop them by all means necessary”.
