Against the backdrop of the worsening insecurity as bandits, terrorists and gunmen run riot across the country, the All Progressives Congress, (APC), has called for greater unity among Nigerians to surmount the challenge.
The ruling party for the first time has admitted that the insecurity across all regions of the country is tending to overwhelm effort at finding solutions and is hurting the collective well-being of the nation.
The Secretary of APC Caretaker /Extraordinary Convention committee, (CECPC) , John James AkpanUdoedehe, in a statement said the APC has to admit the reality of the worsening insecurity as a matter of “current national reality”.
He stated however that the administration is focused on tracking down perpetrators and sponsors of the multi-pronged assault on the nation so as to consolidate the visible development stride of the administration.
The Party urged citizens to shun the antics of those it said who want to seize the current situation to pursue unpatriotic, sectarian goals, urging the security operatives to heed admonition earlier given by President Muhammadu Buhari on the emergency situation which Nigeria has found itself as a country.
“We must not fall for the plot of sectarian opportunists and unpatriotic partisans who have swarmed the public space with divisive rhetoric in furtherance of their selfish plot to exploit the security situation for hideous gains.
“It is dangerous to national security and we should not let them succeed. The President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration is criminalising crime, not ethnicity.
“In our private and public spaces, we have a duty to be vigilant and volunteer information on strange and suspicious activities around us. The President Buhari administration will continue and strategically deploy all state resources in achieving public safety”, it stated.
