The Senate Committee on Army led by the chairman, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume is in Maiduguri, where the North East Command and Control Center for ongoing counterinsurgency campaign against Boko Haram is headquartered, for an operational tour. The team was received at the theatre command headquarters by Major General Christopher Musa, the commander of the theatre along with other senior officers of the Nigerian Army. The Senate committee was first hosted by Borno state Governor Babagana Zulum, at the government house, upon their arrival. Liberty News learned that the team were at the theatre to assess the level of counterinsurgency operations, as well as its challenges, to be addressed by the federal government. The committee is also expected to interact with the Borno State Government over the current state of security in the region, the progresses made this far.
It would be recalled that Senator Ali ndume has been very vocal about what he termed underfunding of the Nigerian Army and the use of dilapidated armaments in the fight against insurgency, banditry among others.
