Kaduna 2023: Two closest allies of el-Rufa’i declare governorship bids

As governor gives hint on successor

Two of the closest allies of Kaduna State governor, Nasir Ahmed el Rufai, Uba Sani and Mohammed Sani–Dattijo, have said that they will bid for his seat in 2023.

Recall that Uba Sani was el-Rufa’i’s Special Adviser on Political and Inter-governmental Affairs during the governor’s first-term, but who is now the senator for Kaduna-Central district, while Sani-Dattijo was moved from being Chief of Staff to Commissioner for Budget and Planning.

While declaring his interest yesterday, Uba Sani pledged to sustain and build on el- Rufa’i’s legacy.

For his part, Dattijo said he has the ability to sustain all that the incumbent governor has achieved.

Dattijo is expected to hand over his resignation letter as a commissioner before he begins ‘consultations’.

Recall that during an interview in a television programme, el- Rufa’i said he wants his successor to be from his core team members.

“My preference is in our core team; that is the First Eleven. I said core team, because these are the guys that worked with me since 2014 to organise our party, our campaign, and we won and got elected”, el-Rufa’i stated.

Among those considered to be in his core team, aside from Messrs Sani and Dattijo, are Hadiza Balarabe (el-Rufa’i’s deputy), Secretary to the State Government, Balarabe Abbas, as well as Bashir Sa’idu and Samuel Aruwan, the commissioners of Finance and Internal Security, respectively.
