Policeman robbed at Ogun checkpoint loses his service weapon

A policeman has lost his AK-47 rifle to some hoodlums who attacked a checkpoint in Ado Odo-Ota local government area of Ogun State.

An officer reportedly sustained an injury in the attack, which happened along Obasanjo-Itele road, on Sunday , when the hoodlums were said to have struck at about 3:11 am.

It was gathered that one ASP Nasiru Azeez, Inspector Olabisi Lawrence and Inspector Atari Friday, were on duty at the checkpoint when the incident occurred.

A reliable source said Inspector Friday sustained the injury on his head while the hoodlums snatched his AK-47 rifle and carted away 30 rounds of live ammunition.

Police operatives are said to be making frantic efforts to recover the lost rifle, while the injured officer was said to have been taken to State Hospital, Ota, for treatment.

When contacted, the Police Spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said he has not been briefed on the incident.
