Pressure group advocates return to parliamentary system

A Benin-based pressure group, City Gate Elders, at the weekend, advocated for the return of Nigeria to a parliamentary system of government towards advancing the nation’s development ahead of May 29, 2023.

Members of the non-partisan Benin-based group, also known as ‘God and Nigeria People Prayer Parliament’, made the submission at a press briefing at the weekend in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

The national leader of City Gate Elders, Dele Oluwatade, pushed back at certain policies of the government and called on lovers of democracy and close aides of President Buhari to prevail on him to quickly redirect his navigation of the country to save it from drifting into oblivion.

Oluwatade, however, recommended the creation of six regions in Nigeria in order to douse the agitation for the dismemberment of the nation.

He urged the President to set aside his Executive Powers conferred on him by the Constitution and transmute to a Prime minister for administrative convince in the remaining part of his tenure. According to him, this can be achieved through the cooperation of the Legislature by setting up a Transition Committee to work out a Parliamentary Constitution for Nigeria.

The national leader of City Gate Elders also assured that the return to regional government would help to reduce the cost of governance, borrowing and economic hardship.
