Residents, vigilantes, and Security Task Force have killed no fewer than 100 terrorists in Bangi community, situated in Mariga local government area of Niger State.
According to reports, they killed the terrorists who invaded the community barely 48 hours after the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Nasko in Magama LGA, Umar Dakingari, was killed during an attack.
It was gathered that the terrorists met stiff resistance when they tried to invade the community.
Residents, who had heard about their advancement, were said to have informed the Police and vigilantes, leading to a showdown with the terrorists.
The fierce battle between the terrorists and the combined team of the security task force, vigilantes and residents was said to have lasted for more than three hours, during which many of the terrorists died.
It was also learnt that one Police Officer died during the gun battle while several others sustained injuries.
The residents were reported to have jubilated after surviving bandits retreated into the forest. About 50 motorcycles belonging to the terrorists were also reportedly recovered.
The State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, commended the gallantry of the joint security operatives, the vigilantes and the residents for foiling the attack and killing several terrorists in Bangi.
In a statement, Bello said it was soul-soothing to know the terrorists had a bad outing during the attack.
He acknowledged the dedication of the conventional and unconventional security agencies in the fight against terrorism in the State, while commiserating with the Police Force for losing another officer in a gun duel with terrorists.
