Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has appointed 14,000 Advisers and 359 Liaison Officers across the State less than eight months to the end of his tenure.
According to the governor’s spokesperson, Kelvin Ebiri, in an issued press statement yesterday, the 14,000 Advisers will be in charge of the various political units in the State, while the Liaison Officers will be in charge of the wards and local government areas. The statement further said that the Advisers will play a pivotal role in the administration.
“In addition to the 14,000 advisers, Governor Wike has also appointed 319 Ward Liaison Officers and 40 local government area Liaison Officers. The appointments are with immediate effect”, Ebiri said.
Recall that the Governor, on March 1, declared that henceforth his administration would focus on welfare and empowerment schemes popularly called stomach infrastructure. He said having spent the better part of his administration providing physical infrastructure, he would direct his attention to the politics of stomach infrastructure.
Most people are of the opinion that the massive appointments were part of the governor’s efforts to empower residents.
