Southern governors demand State Police

…Say it’s the only solution to insecurity

Governors of southern Nigeria under the umbrella of Southern Governors Forum (SGF) have demanded for the creation of State Police, noting that it is the only solution to the country’s security challenges bedevilling the country.

The Ondo State governor and chairman of the Forum, Rotimi Akeredolu, made the Southern governors demand known during their meeting in Asaba, Delta State, in an issued statement yesterday. According to him, the devolution of powers is the surest path to progress.

The governors and key stakeholders have been at the forefront of the clamour for State policing. 

Recall that a fortnight ago, northern governors also demanded for State Police.

The vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, had also argued that a multi-ethnic nation like Nigeria needs State Police in order to address its security challenges.
