The Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU), has threatened to embark on another round of industrial strike action after its next National Executive Council (NEC) meeting. Unpaid salaries: Another strike looms as ASUU caution AGF, Idris 

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU), has threatened to embark on another strike over the deliberate refusal of the Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, to pay the salaries and remittance of check-off dues of over 1,000 staff for 13 months.  The ASUU chairman, Dr. Lazarus Maigoro University of Jos, gave the threat in a press statement made available to journalists in Jos, the capital of Plateau State. The immediate past vice-president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Emmanuel Osodeke, has emerged as the new president of the union. Osodeke, a professor of soil science at the Federal University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, was elected early yesterday morning during a 3-day conference of the union, which held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State. Varsities unsafe to re-open now, institutions not ready – ASUU

Branches of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU), on Sunday assessed Covid-19 protocols in the universities and said the institutions were not ready for safe re-opening. The chapters of the union, in separate interviews commented on the directive of the National Universities Commission, (NUC), that universities could resume on January 18, but must adhere to COVID-19 protocols in hostels and lecture halls.
