Bayelsa: Diri declared winner of governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Douye Diri, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Bayelsa State. INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Faruq Kuta, who is the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Of Technology, Minna, Niger State, said Diri, having polled the majority of votes and satisfied the requirement of the law, is now declared elected. Bayelsa guber Polls: Gov. Diri wins at Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Wednesday affirmed Douye Diri as the duly elected governor of Bayelsa. A seven-member panel of the apex court led by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta in a unanimous judgement, dismissed the six appeals filed against the governor and his Deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. Justice Ngwuta predicated the dismissal of the appeals on the withdrawal of the six appeals by lawyers of the appellants. Bayelsa Governor, Diri, heads to Appeal Court as tribunal annuls his election

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has revealed that he will appeal the ruling by the tribunal nullifying his election as governor of the state. He also said that he has instructed his lawyers to file the necessary papers.
