Terrorism: Anxiety, as mass exodus hits Kaduna community over incessant attack

Following the incessant terrorist attacks in the region, the Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressives Union (BEPU) have openly expressed their concerns over the high level of anxiety in Damari town, of Kazage Ward, in Birnin-Gwari LGA of Kaduna State, which has been making the citizens desert the community en-masse over continuous attacks by terrorists.

The Chairman, Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressives Union (BEPU), Ishaq Usman Kasai, in an issued statement yesterday, said: “Today, the people of Damari are fleeing en masse following the continuous attacks by terrorists that besieged the farming community on a ‘vengeance mission’ over Ansaru who have since relocated from the area. The precarious situation and the high level of Insecurity in the area, women and children were seen trekking for safety. As at 11 o’clock this morning, about 20 vehicles were seen moving out with escapes”.

The Union had two days ago reported the cruel activities of terrorists and bandits, killing and abducting people in Damari and adjourned areas. “On Thursday, the bandits reportedly passed through the same Damari town, shooting in the air sporadically; and came back to the town in the early hours of today 29th July, which is a Market Day, snatched motorcycles, seized money from marketers, rustled cattle and kidnapped scores, including a grain-selling businesses man. This is coming after Ansaru members who were considered to be ‘protecting’ the community against armed bandits, relocated to other areas”, it stated.

“It against the recent daily recurrent attacks by armed bandits, vis-a-vis reliable information available to the locals on bandits planning serious attacks against the community, that made the locals desert the town en masse for their safety. Presently, there is no presence of security agents in the town. It is against this disturbing situation that we are calling on the authorities to, as a matter of urgency, mobilise security personnel to the community in order to arrest the situation”, the union cried out.
