US forces rescue American hostage from bandits in Nigeria

The United States (US) forces have rescued an American hostage in Nigeria, its Department of Defense, a.k.a. the Pentagon, said yesterday.

An American citizen, Philip Walton, abducted by suspected bandits last week in Niger Republic had been rescued during a high-risk U.S. military raid in Nigeria. The man was abducted in Niger Republic and taken across the border to Nigeria, where US forces freed him without suffering any casualties, it said.

According to report, the operation involved the governments of the U.S., Niger and Nigeria working together to rescue Walton quickly. It said its elite SEAL Team Six carried out the rescue mission and killed all but one of the captors, according to officials with direct knowledge about the operation.

“We appreciate the support of our international partners in conducting this operation”, said the Pentagon’s chief spokesperson, Jonathan Hoffman.
