Zamfara: Matawalle suspends district head for conferring title on soldier aiding bandits

…As State govt. arrest 7 security personnel

The Zamfara State governor, Bello Matawalle, has suspended the district head of Badarawa, in Shinkafi Emirate Council of the State, Surajo NaMakkah.

This was disclosed by the governor’s Director-General on Media, Yusuf Idris, via a statement released yesterday.

According to reports, the district head was suspended indefinitely by the governor for conferring the traditional title of Durumbu on a military officer who was arrested for allegedly selling ammunition to bandits in the State.

The military officer, who was recently arrested in possession of 20 rounds of 62mm live ammunition, was said to have been at the point of handing over the ammunition to one Kabiru Bashiru of Maniya village, Shinkafi Emirate, and had allegedly collected an advance payment of N100,000 from bandits.

The governor said anything capable of breaching the hard-earned peace of the state will not be tolerated.

Meanwhile, the State government has confirmed the arrest of seven security personnel for aiding and abetting banditry in the state and other parts of the North-West region.

The State’s Commissioner of Information, Ibrahim Dosara, who disclosed this to newsmen, said the suspects sabotage military operations by sharing military intelligence, supplying uniforms, arms and ammunition and other facilities to armed bandits.

Ibrahim Dosara said the suspects, who have already been interrogated and confessed to their respective crimes, have been sabotaging the operations, by sharing military intelligence, supplying arms and ammunition, military uniforms and other facilities to the armed bandits to prevent our gallant soldiers from conquering the bandits.

He said the suspects have already been handed over to their appropriate security authorities for further necessary actions.
